About Program

This 9 week immersive course is catered to beginners with no previous design or technical experience. Students will be taught the fundamentals of User Centered Design and learn to validate ideas by going through the design process starting with User Research, Rapid Prototyping and ending with User Testing & Iteration.

Students will then learn how to take their designs a step further by coding the prototype using front-end web development skills in HTML, CSS & JavaScript. The course will end with a capstone project where students will take a new product idea from validation to launch.

By the end of the course, students will be ready to start a new career as full- stack UX/UI Designer, Freelance or turbo charge their current professional trajectory.

I was a backend developer, with Rails, which i learned by myself, and wanted to learn Javascript MEAN stack and switch to frontend development. I did it in 9 weeks.

We were 16 students and learned more than you can learn by yourself in a double amount of time. That number allows you to do pair programming, ask whenever you need, and being a little family (it is the whole day with them).

You will have a lead teacher, to learn the deepest corners of Javascript, and some teacher assistants, to guide you through the daily practices and being more than teachers.

It is very intensive, but magical. When you finish, you will be very impressed about how much knowledge you acquired in just 9 weeks. And you will be prepared to be a junior in the techs that companies wants.

Sofia, tell us about yourself.

I'm a product designer based in Spain. I'm currently working for Ironhack as a mentor for the UX and UI Bootcamp. I'm also a music and art enthusiast, so I try to stay tuned to the city's cultural landscape

What is your favorite travel memory?

I went with my family to Venezuela when I was around 8 years old. We took a small boat to a "secret island" beach. My little brother, aged 4, was literally jumping from his seat during the journey. My mother was completely terrified, but it was worth the adventure!

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I'm a lot more hands-on to any idea or coordination I can do for the sake of our Bootcamp product and students living on Campus. I'm also more modest, as my job is to understand every different student, take into account their learning process and try to come up with solutions together to implement in their prototypes.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

One of our last edition students came from working 6 years in hospitality. He is very hard-working and joined Ironhack without any previous knowledge on design.

Today, he's using our campus as a co-working space, finishing his portfolio and applying to jobs. He's going to deepen his knowledge on graphic design throughout this year as he's convinced he wants to be a UI designer. He already is involved in a few startup projects and has a number of job proposals.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I'm now taking the part-time WebDev program because I think it's very important for every designer to know the material with which our creations will be made of. It's great for working people like me, I hope I can keep up with it. Wish me luck!

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Our community. It's FOR REAL! When I moved from Madrid, where I took my Bootcamp, to Barcelona, where I currently work, I came to Ironhack to say hi! The campus manager offered me an opportunity very soon and within a couple of months, I was offered to join the team! I can rely on all Ironhackers around the world if I ever transfer again, so I wish Ironhack keeps growing.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

Being very iterative and adaptive to change. We are always looking for the latest tools, methodologies, and topics to cover in all of our programs. That way we're always ahead in the market and we keep up to pace with what the companies really need and want for new professionals in the present time.
