Hailing from Boulder, Colorado, Marion Taylor is owner of Taylor The Gap LLC and the only GYA accredited gap year advisor between Chicago and California. Prior to founding Taylor The Gap LLC in 2011, Marion worked in Social Work for over 35 years focused on families, women, and children both domestically and abroad. Distinct from other counselors, she offers a unique parenting perspective with all four of her children having participated in a structured and or independent gap experience.
Marion, a former GYA Board Member, serves as co-chair of the Membership Committee, on the fair trade and 10th anniversary committees. She works with young and adult students nationally from all orientations, abilities, and economic backgrounds, and emphasizes student ownership and direction in the design of customized gap experiences based on interests and goals. She serves as a keynote speaker at USA Gap Fairs and speaks regularly at colleges and high schools. Marion flanked her own college years with a gap year at the University of Grenoble, France, followed by three years with the Peace Corps in a rural development program in Senegal, West Africa, after college. Marion is unique among consultants by continuing to experience and vet gap programs in an ongoing basis to keep current of gap issues. Over the past several years, Marion taught English to women in Moshi, Tanzania, worked with women’s co-ops in Gisenyi, Rwanda, visited earthquake ravaged Batase village in Nepal, participated in an adult gap program in the Sacred Valley in Peru, and immersed herself in two intensive Spanish language programs in Antigua, Guatemala, and in Cuenca, Ecuador.
