Finding family in the French Alps

While studying abroad in Grenoble, France, I was blessed with three younger siblings for the first time in my life. My host parents were beyond wonderful, cooking classic dishes from the French Alps and making me genuinely feel at home while I was farther from home than I had ever been before in my life. Still in touch, they reach out over what's app regularly, as do I, and although I have missed seeing my little siblings grow in person, I look forward to seeing them again someday in the future. However, these weren't the only connections I made there. The point person for CEA in the French Alps is beyond wonder and exceptionally talented at her job. She was great at accommodating the many unique personalities of the students

Pros
  • Meeting and becoming a part a French family
  • My professors and classmates were exceptionally wonderful. We even got dinner together as a class with the professor after exams!
  • UGA campus is incredibly cool with fantastic libraries, athletic facilities, and niche opportunities (such as the Parkour class I took)
Cons
  • Learning how to use trams was hard. I walked home many time because I missed the last tram, and I was also ticketed for not using it properly.
  • There were some areas of town which I crossed daily that felt potentially dangerous especially after dark.
  • The time change was hard to work with while navigating a long distance relationship.
