ITA Online: July 1st

Awesome course! I was truly impressed with the amount of content and the quality of the content. I would recommend this course to my friends and anyone who is interested in teaching English overseas. My teacher for the course was very knowledgeable and offered more than enough help and feedback throughout the entire course. There was a plethora of videos throughout the course (average 3-4 per chapter) that not only offered help with the learning aspect of the course, but could also be used in lesson planning once you are in a teaching position overseas. The only thing I feel I would change is I would prefer there to be a section within the course that deals with the job search aspect of the teaching English overseas process. 10/10. Will recommend the course to anyone who wants to teach English overseas!!

What would you improve about this program?
I just feel there needs to be a sections within the course to go over the Job search aspect and maybe have prior students who have gone on to find a job there to ask questions.

Worth It!

Don't let the big price tag scare you: this course has the bang to match your buck! I was impressed with the sheer volume of information, the difficulty of the assignments, and the extensive support network ITA has to offer. I felt like I was back in college - in both a good and an exhausting way! - while taking this course. I learned things in 10 weeks that 2.5 years working in the industry hadn't taught me. I also now understand the "why" behind a lot of what I do. This course has made me excited to move abroad, and equipped me with the knowledge to feel confident about doing so. Now that I'm done, I'm looking forward to taking advantage of the job search guidance ITA offers. I'm confident in their ability to help me, too, as one of my classmates already received her job offer - two weeks before the course even finished!

What would you improve about this program?
I would've liked a little more time to complete the Thematic Unit (Final Project) at the end, as the break-neck speed of this course left little wiggle room for life to squeeze in!

High Level School

This is not a simple certification course. The theory is provided in depth as are the assignments that need to be completed. I wouldn't consider this course to be part-time but full-time with all of the research and formatting needed to complete the assignments. The course will make you into a strong lesson planner and you will know how to find and incorporate materials whether or not you have a textbook for your class. You will learn how to create interesting lessons that your students will remember that are provided in context. Make sure you have plenty of time to pursue this course; it will help with your understanding and strengthen you as a new teacher.
Know that once you complete the course you will still have 4-6 weeks to wait for your final certification.

What would you improve about this program?
I recommend there be more actual demonstration on using the skills taught for that chapter via uploading videos of their use rather than writing research papers about them.

Quality Education, Continued Support, and Great Resources

I was pleased with my ITA experience pretty much from the get-go. I was shopping around a comparing other programs when I first spoke to my advisor over the phone. He spoke patiently with my girlfriend and I for quite awhile, answering questions both broad and oddly-specific as best he could. At the end of the call, he discussed next steps if we wanted to sign up and told us where to reach him. No sales pitch, no pressure. From there we completed the course after work and on weekends. It's definitely legitimate work and the certification is not simply handed to you, meaning that you genuinely learn along the way. The course covers everything from teaching philosophies, to how to run a class, to cultural norms, and so much more, so if you've never taught (like myself) don't worry. I found the course to be effective, thorough, and well worth the money. Especially with the huge alumni group and resources made available. Very shortly after completing our course, my girlfriend and I both got hired to teach english online to students in China and will be heading over seas in a few weeks to work in a school. I highly recommend this course. For the quality and the opportunities it will afford you.

What would you improve about this program?
No complaints. I suppose a more affordable textbook would be nice but that would be just a luxury. You don't need a text book (you have the option to purchase one), as it's all done online.

ITA Tefl

When I first looked into getting certified to teach abroad, I honestly wasn't sure where to start. I did a Google search and found a bunch of different resources but most of them only had classroom options. When I found ITA and saw they had an online option I was extremely excited. After looking into it a bit, I realized I wasn't sure I could afford the price but my email correspondence helped me immensely and we were able to figure out a payment plan that worked for me. Just a few short weeks later and I was on my way to getting certified! The class was definitely a challenge but well worth the money. I have not yet used their resources for job placement but the information I have gotten from not only the website but the Facebook groups has been a tremendous help in finding a job and moving to China. I can honestly say I am happy with my decision to go with ITA and I know that they will forever be a valuable resource for me when looking for a new job in a new country!

What would you improve about this program?
Make the website more user friendly. It is a bit difficult to navigate.

Great experience with ITA

I took the online program through ITA and was really impressed with the material and feedback provided in the course. Outside of the TEFL course, I think the best part of ITA is the alumni base and job search guidance. I received invaluable help from alumni all over the world when I was deciding which country to move to. You can join Facebook groups for every country and ask questions about finding a job, what to pack, or the best area to live. This eased my mind so much before making the move across the world to China!

What would you improve about this program?
I really enjoyed every aspect of this program!

International TEFL Academy: Live your Dream

When I graduated from college, I was looking for opportunities to travel, live abroad extensively and to make a global impact. This is when I first considered a career in TEFL. Upon doing my research, I discovered International TEFL Academy (ITA).

At first, I was a bit unsure. This company seemed to good to be true at first. It was only when I got an ITA representative on the phone that I realized I had come to the right place to be TEFL certified. From the start, International TEFL Academy was so supportive and willing to answer any questions I had. When asking about the online course schedule, I found that they were flexible and willing to work with my busy class schedule.

As my class was online, I found myself poring over the ITA website to learn more. I was inspired by the words of other alumni on their website. There was nothing better than to read about others with the same dream as mine who had gone on to make a difference in the world and to take a daring leap into new adventures and cultures. I remember thinking to myself, "This will be me." There was simply no question at this point: I had come to the right place. ITA was the perfect place to find a network of like-minded individuals to support me on my new journey and lifelong career support.

After taking the ITA online class in 2014, I arrived in France in the Rhone-Alps to teach English. I had countless teaching strategies under my belt and was ready to put them into practice. After I began teaching, I joined the ITA alumni France group to pose specific questions about life and teaching ESL in France. It felt good to have support and a network to connect with to share my trials and tribulations.

The rest is history.

After teaching in France, I moved to South Korea and taught for 2 years (2015-2017). I am now living in Suzhou, China and wouldn't change my life for the world! ITA has opened windows of opportunity in my life. I have been able to explore the world, while sharing my love of language. In every stage of my career as a TEFL instructor, International TEFL Academy has been there to support me and to help me grow.

In a way, ITA changed my life and has changed my perception of the world. The more I travel and learn, the more open-minded and understanding I have become. I have learned to give more, to listen more and to never lose my sense of curiosity.

As an ESL instructor, I create windows of opportunity for my students. I create a bridge between cultures and empower students to confidently express themselves. My favorite memories are those moments of impact, when I am able to see how learning English truly makes an impact on the lives of my students. There are simply no words to express the joy of a student finding their voice in English or finding a student's joy of learning rekindled in the classroom.

My tip to those considering ESL is to take the leap! If you have a passion for teaching and traveling, ESL may be perfect for you. Above all, I highly advise anyone looking to teach ESL to enroll in a class with ITA and to take full advantage of the resources and alumni network within ITA. I promise you will not be disappointed!

A Different World...From Where You Come From

Everything you know about democracy, first-world country and common sense needs to go out the window while in China. Be open to the 180 degree change of life that you will experience from the time you step off the plane. I say these things because I was blown away at how I was not prepared for China. Despite all that I read, I was still in shock. Teaching in China is another experience: their expectations for English are high. Be prepared to train on your own because they do not offer it. Thank goodness for the coursework with International TEFL Academy. You, as a native speaker, will be thrown into a classroom and will be told to teach. It's trial by fire. The good thing about these situations were that I learned that I spoke too fast. I also learned that the students did not speak English very well. Instead of me teaching them, WE taught each other.
