IVHQ is amazing!

I loved my IVHQ experience. I am a young solo traveller and the thorough and efficient nature of IVHQ helped both me and my parents feel comfortable with me travelling overseas alone. I loved my experience and IVHQ made me feel safe, well prepared and supported at all points before and during my time volunteering in Indonesia. I will definitely be coming back to IVHQ in the future because it provides a great path to pursue interests, meet new people from all over the world and get out of your comfort zone whilst still having a support system to help you.

Pros
  • Their information is upfront, accessible and clear
  • They are honest about things such as accomodation, access to amenities
  • There are informed people you can contact to help with issues at any point
Cons
  • It can be quite expensive
  • "Add ons" can sometimes be confusing to use but this is easily fixed by talking to team members

Bali is an Amazing Place to Volunteer

Bali is an amazing place. I fell in love teaching English to the very enthusiastic 4th graders.
The Green Lion support staff was very supportive and deserve a lot of praise for keeping the volunteers in line.
The Balinese people are very friendly, welcoming and truly in balance with their environment. They taught me so much about life balance, their culture and helped me find a new inner peace. I would recommend to anyone wanting to experience a unique culture truly in touch with their community.

Pros
  • Great Support Team
  • Amazing culture
  • Many beautiful sites
Cons
  • Rain everyday
  • Very little beef
  • Lots of fried foods

I volunteered in Bali

I volunteered for 1 week with International Volunteer HQ for a teaching English program in Bali.
On the ground, we worked with an NGO, the Green Lion. I was teaching at a school which was located in a village on the outskirts of Bali. I was assigned to teach children aged 9-10 years. I had 31 children in my assigned class.

I had the best time possible. The teaching experience was hard, as you had to prepare all the materials yourself (what to teach, how to teach it, incorporate tests, pronunciations, spellings, games & songs) and create all the material you wanted to teach before your daily teaching schedule. Given the children knew very little English, I spent lots of time prepping with words in Bahasa for ease of teaching in English and for translations with the kids.

I absolutely loved the experience. The kids were so giving and full of love and appreciation. They wanted to learn everything and had a great positive spirit to keep trying and practising whatever you teach them. You are definitely out of your comfort zone, but you meet amazing people along the journey.

I even had the chance to volunteer for an additional day at the turtle conservation which is also part of Green Lion NGO in Bali

I would recommend volunteering. A small part of kindness can make a real difference 😊

Pros
  • Meet new people
  • Out of your comfort zone
  • Great experience
Cons
  • Wanted to spend more time
  • Mattress could be harder

Turtle Conservation in Nusa Penida

I just came back from wonderful two weeks volunteering on Nusa Penida Island next to Bali with IVHQ. I joined the Turtle Conservation programme, and it was a really amazing experience. Having done other voluntary projects in the past, I was not sure if there would be "something in it for me", but I was mistaken!
First of all, the organization of the stay and support beforehand was excellent, food and accommodation were great, and the local team was brilliant - very committed and always smiling! I met an amazing crowd of like-minded people, including a family with 3 kids, and made friendships that are here to last. We also had lots of fun together - including karaoke!
And last but not least - I felt we could really make a difference with our practical support to the turtle project and also our beach cleaning actions. I definitely recommend this programme for any animal and nature lover - the turtles are such amazing creatures!

Pros
  • Location
  • Local team
  • Great atmosphere
Cons
  • very big group when I was there

The Most Amazing Experience of my Life

I've been checking out IVHQ for a few years now before I finally decided to take the leap. Simply reflecting back on my time volunteering makes me tear up. I had the most amazing life changing experience I could have ever asked for. It beyond exceeded my expectations. The support of the IVHQ team had me at ease, the local team was also amazing, the accommodation and food was incredible. I made friends and family for life with the other volunteers and local team. Teaching the children felt so rewarding and getting to explore and learn about another culture was eye-opening and magical. Bali is an incredible place. I can't say enough good things about IVHQ and the experience I had volunteering. I can't wait for my next adventure!

Pros
  • Learning about the culture
  • Making friends
  • Making an impact

Environmental Sustainability Bali Ubud

I was really supported by the Staff at Green Lion they go to great lengths to look out for their volunteers. They have specifically chosen drivers who are fair with their prices and are extremely trustworthy. I really enjoyed the cultural immersive aspect, I highly recommend doing the orientation week it helped me a great deal in my volunteering, and just in everyday. I recommend learning a bit of Bahasa language, there is a language barrier, the people will try their best to speak English and they do speak alot of english, but I think it's nice to try to speak their language. The people are so lovely they will help you out with the language, I practised with my driver and the reaction from my students when I spoke was well worth it. I was very sad to leave, it's hard not to form a connection with the local people, but embrace the experience and life in the village. Although you will have everything you need, don't expect the comforts of home, use it as a learning experience.

Pros
  • Great people
  • Personal growth
  • Meaningful roles
Cons
  • You will rely on drivers as its in a village setting
  • You can not drink the water but bottled & filters water provided

volunteering in Ubud Bali with IVHQ

Volunteering in Bali with IVHQ was an experience like no other. The amount of people I met at the program that had so much to offer was amazing and it truly helped me learn more about many different cultures and traditions. Due to the amount of people coming from all over the place thanks to how accesible IVHQ aims to be, the opportunity to meet people from all over and learn about their cultures and their lives is unforgettable. I am currently taking a gap year and volunteering with IVHQ was the best decision I took for this year because it helped me grow in so many ways and it helped me embrace and honor other cultures.

Pros
  • Amazing location
  • Beautiful landscapes
  • Great housing accommodation-food, rooms, services
Cons
  • Literally none

best experience of my life

When I decided to do this I went with no expectations and an open mind. What I did not expect though, was to meet so many amazing people. It was truly an experience I will never forget. Bali has become my second home and I can't wait to return to the people there. The program itself is very well constructed and you'll never be bored. There is always something to do and to see. If you need anything the local staff is there to help you 24/7. Teaching at a school is just amazing with all the kids, playing and learning. You really don't want to miss out on this!

Pros
  • meeting many people from anywhere in the world
  • amazing for self development
  • learning about local culture

Questions & Answers

It depends on where you are going and how long you are staying. For Indonesia, you do not need one if you are staying less than 30 days.

In Ubud, the total fees will be at least US$1,979. You can opt to pay for more flexibility if you like too :)
